Chara Sands- The Freezing Siberian Desert

It’s hard to believe it, but freezing cold Siberia has a desert of its own, the Chara Sands. We’re not talking about a desert with oases and camels, but one with reindeer and bears instead! It’s located in a tundra area, with snowed capped mountain peaks surrounding it, some 280 miles east of the world’s largest freshwater reservoir, lake Baikal. The Chara Sands are a phenomenon you’ll find nowhere else in Siberia, and some think that’s a shame, as the remote place delivers amazing views. The contrast between the cold mountains and the warm-colored desert sand is stunning. For those who may want to see it but fear getting lost in the desert, don’t be afraid, the Chara Sands is only 7 miles long and 3 miles wide.
